Jack Kendon, Brighton BN Jazz, Fri 20th

This week Brighton Blue Note, Hove actually has local trumpet sensation Jack Kendon of Sussex and his band of merry men including Wayne McConnell on keyboard, Jim Whyte on drums and Max Kahn on bass forming a great quartet for the late night jazz sessions.  Jack is the son of well-known double bass player and jazz educationalist Adrian Kendon.  I first met Jack some years ago at Chichester Jazz Course when he was a young 17 year old bebopper brimming with enthusiasm and potential.  Since then he has completed his Jazz studies at Middlesex Uni and moved back to Brighton and plays  in various settings around town.  Jack can be found each Thursday at the Bristol Bar in Kemptown where he runs a fun night of jamming with special guests.  He also plays in soul / hip hop group E.M.E – I saw them play a brilliant gig at the Hydrant, check them out whenever you can like at the Western Front on a Sunday night.

The band starts at 10.30pm until late with other bands from Brighton Jazz School playing from 8pm.  It’s free entry all night.  Brighton Blue note is the jazz bar situated underneath the Greenhouse effect bar, 63 Church Rd, Hove.
