Brighton blue note closing ceremony, Andy Mackintosh

This Friday see’s the closing of the Jazz nights at Doug Ellingford’s bar Brighton Blue Note (in Hove actually).  Since opening in February we’ve been hosting regular Friday night jazz with players gracing the stage such as Rob Heasman, Paul Greenwood, Ian Price, Julian Nicholas, Jack Kendon, Will Gardner, Zee Gachettee, Marcina Arnold, Rob Leake, Martijn Van Galen, Dave Quincy, Sara Oschlag, Simon D’Souza, Richard Beesley, Bjorn Dahlberg, Charlotte Glasson, Jason Abrahams and more plus excellent drummers and double bassists such as Loz Thomas, Terry Pack, Nigel Thomas, Joe Malone, Dave Trigwel, Eddie Myer, George Trebar, Steve Thompson, Alex Eberhard, Dan Sheppard, Nick McGuigan, Tony Shephrd, Sam Glasson, Tristan Banks, Jim Whyte and many more.  This Friday we’ll be having alto sax suprmemo Andy Mackintosh !

Brighton Jazz School will be playing their set from 8pm. we’ve got George Trebar on bass and Loz Thomas on drums, myself on guitar. So don’t miss out on the last night of Friday night Jazz at Brighton Blue Note, 63 Church Rd, Hove!  21st September!

Brighton BN Jazz, Fri 14th, Ian Price

This Friday 14th we have monster tenor sax player Ian Price at Brighton Blue Note Jazz Bar, Hove actually with bands from 8pm courtesy of Brighton Jazz school featuring musicians such as Mike Guest, Amanda Allen, Vic Forte and many many more. Saxophonist, flautist and clarinetist Ian Price is primarily a jazz player, but is well-versed in many styles of music. He is a member of Cubana Bop, and also of the John Donaldson Quartet. He has recently been touring with ‘Milestones’, celebrating the music of Miles Davis. He has appeared with Peter King, Bobby Wellins, Roy Ayers, Alan Barnes, Herbie Flowers and many more, both in the jazz and pop worlds.

The band will have Ian, Nigel Thomas on bass, myself on guitar and drummer to be confirmed. It’s all going on at Brighton Blue Note under the Greenhouse Effect, 63 Church Rd, Hove, East Sussex.

Bjorn Dahlberg Brighton BN Jazz Fri 7th

This Friday at Doug  Elingford’s jazz bar Brighton Blue Note, Hove actually, we have special guest multi-instrumentalist Bjorn Dahlberg.   Björn Dahlberg is a Swedish musician, best known for his saxophone & clarinet work. Born outside of Stockholm Björn started playing piano at the age of 5 and clarinet at the age of 11. While studying classical clarinet he fell in love with the music of Paul Desmond, Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea & Miles Davies and picked up the saxophon.  Focusing at first on the Baritone and Soprano sax (studying soprano with master musician Cenneth Jönsson) he added tenor to his collection and found his voice and began his studies at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.Björn is a founding member of world jazz groups Nybakat and Lele Lele. He has played with the elite musicians of Sweden such as Jan Schaffer, Mats Ronander, Ulf Andersson and more.  Liane Carroll called his clarinet playing “The sexiest clarinet I’ve ever heard!”. Nigel Kennedy called him a “Killer player!” He has toured all over the world and played on the biggest stages, from Fashing, Glenn Miller Café, The Royal Albert Hall, the Hollywood Bowl and to a crowd of 85000 in São Paolo. A player with one foot deeply set in folk music and another in groovy danceable hard-bop, bringing his entire arsenal of wind instruments this is one not to miss!

The band kicks off at 10.30pm with Joe Malone drums, Paul Whitten bass and me strumming guitar. bands from Brighton jazz school from 8pm, free entry. brighton blue note 63 Church rd Hove East Sussex.
