Paul performs all over the UK and abroad, giving solo guitar recitals spanning Latin, classical and jazz genres, playing in a wide range of duos and bands and also his successful Latin trio dazzling audiences at Jazz clubs and festivals. He has recorded 2 albums – Paul Richards Trio ; Empatia & Episodes (available on iTunes, CDbaby & Spotify)
The Paul Richards Trio is very popular and in high demand at international Jazz festivals such as Love Supreme Festival, Rye International Jazz festival, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Guiting Music Festival, Jazz @ Cadogan Hall, Jazz @ Royal Albert Hall, Tonbridge Castle with Russell Watson & Lianne Carroll and more.
Paul is responsible for setting up and organising the “Brunswick Jazz Jam” at The Brunswick venue in Hove which has been running for over 7 years now. It’s the most successful Jazz night in Brighton with the venue packed to capacity every Tuesday night. The night welcomes a wealth of local talent and international artists who perform onstage with Paul’s rotating house band. He also runs the Independent Jazz Wednesdays & West Hill Tavern Jazz Thursdays.
Paul plays around the South East and abroad including solo jazz and classical guitar from throughout Europe to Kuwait, Oman and beyond. Paul performs classical guitar recitals in churches such as All Saints in Hove & Unitarian Church in Brighton which are always a sell out & St Andrew’s, Brighton and as part of Brighton Fringe Festival. He also works as a session guitarist and has recorded for many singers and recording artists such as Low Deep, Dee Palmer (Jethro Tull) & many more.
He has performed on stage with Soweto Kinch, Dave O’Higgins, Joe Lee Wilson, John Altman, Omar, Z Star & Nigel Price amongst others.
Paul is a highly respected teacher and offers guitar lessons in the Brighton & Hove area. He tutors a range of students. He is a trained teacher holding a PGCE teaching certificate and Qualified teacher status (QTS) from class teaching. Paul teaches A level & BTEC guitar students at East Sussex Academy of Music (ESAM) at Sussex Downs College, Lewes and has worked for the local council music services (Brighton & Hove, East Sussex & West Sussex) teaching whole class music, guitar and bass lessons in many local schools. Paul is a guest lecturer at Brighton jazz school and also runs Sussex Jazz Guitar School.
Paul set up Sussex Jazz Guitar School. A monthly in depth group class for jazz guitarists, using his skills both as an experienced performer and qualified and experienced college & school teacher to pass on his knowledge.
Paul also plays for Flamenco dancers, both for public performances and dance classes.
